This is out of character for me. But hey, what the hell, today is Wednesday.
One small step at a time. So as to not get overwhelmed.

Hey there Savage! How are you?
Japan’s negative attitude regarding tattoos is as famous as its love of sexualized cartoon characters (I think). It’s no surprise when visitors get kicked out of onsens here because obviously tatts are used to identify the bad guys. Luckily that’s never happened to me - knock on wood. But since arriving in Japan about 4 years ago, I’ve noticed an increasing number of Japanese people proudly showing off their body art. Usually the ones showing off their body art are the young, so-hip-it-hurts crowd. But today I saw this older lady unabashedly exposing her marked skin. It was cool. Maybe this is a sign of progress?
Sometimes Tokyo surprises me. I expect it to be loud and obnoxious all the time with its impossibly high highrises, obscenely lit billboards, and shrieking shop people welcoming you (discouraging me) into their stores. Yet, behind the glare of the bright neon lights are communities that are growing old gracefully. Hopefully not to be forgotten as we race towards the rest of our lives.
